  • Quantity Needed: Provide the total quantity of wood pieces needed. This should be a whole number starting from 1.
  • Waste Factor: Choose a waste factor from the options provided (10%, 15%, or 20%). This accounts for any excess material needed due to waste.
  • Price per Board Foot ($): Input the price per board foot for your wood. Enter a value of at least $0.01.

Step 2: Calculate the Results

After filling in all required input fields, the calculator will automatically compute and present several results:

  • Total Board Feet: This is the total board feet required for your project, taking the waste factor into account. Calculated as: (Wood Length x (Wood Width/12) x (Wood Thickness/12) x Quantity x Waste Factor). The result is displayed with two decimal places and the suffix ‘BF’.
  • Total Cost: The total cost of the wood, computed by multiplying the total board feet by the price per board foot. Displayed as a currency in USD with two decimal precision.
  • Waste Amount: The amount of wood in board feet that represents waste, calculated as: (Total Board Feet – (Wood Length x (Wood Width/12) x (Wood Thickness/12) x Quantity)). It is shown with a ‘BF’ suffix and two decimal places.
  • Cost per Piece: The cost of each individual piece of wood, calculated by dividing the total cost by the quantity needed. Presented in USD with two decimal precision.
