How to Use the Landscape Rock Calculator
The Landscape Rock Calculator is a helpful tool designed to estimate the amount of landscape rock needed for your project. Follow this simple guide to effectively use the calculator and plan your landscaping work.
Step 1: Input the Area Dimensions
Begin by measuring the length and width of the area where you plan to place the landscape rock. Ensure all measurements are in feet for accuracy.
- Area Length (feet): Enter this measurement in the ‘Area Length’ field. Make sure it is between 0.1 and 1000 feet and round to the nearest 0.1.
- Area Width (feet): Enter this measurement in the ‘Area Width’ field. Ensure it follows the same validation rules as the length.
Step 2: Determine the Depth of Rock
Decide how deep you want the rock layer to be, measured in inches. The depth should be based on your landscaping design’s visual or functional requirements.
- Depth (inches): Enter the desired depth in the ‘Depth’ field, keeping it between 0.5 and 24 inches, rounded to the nearest 0.5.
Step 3: Select the Type of Rock
Select the type of rock you plan to use for your landscape from the available options. Each type of rock varies in weight, which will affect the total weight calculated.
- Rock Type: Choose one of the following options from the dropdown menu:
- River Rock (45 lbs/ft³)
- Crushed Stone (50 lbs/ft³)
- Pea Gravel (55 lbs/ft³)
- Decomposed Granite (60 lbs/ft³)
Step 4: View the Calculated Results
After entering all the necessary input fields, the calculator will automatically compute and display the following results:
- Total Area: This value is the calculated area based on the input length and width, presented in square feet (ft²).
- Volume Required: This is the total volume of rock needed in cubic feet (ft³), taking into account the depth you’ve chosen.
- Volume in Cubic Yards: The previous volume measurement converted into cubic yards (yd³) for convenience.
- Total Weight: The combined weight of the rock based on the selected type, displayed in pounds (lbs).
- Weight in Tons: This is the weight measurement converted into tons.
Using the Landscape Rock Calculator will provide you with accurate estimations to aid in the success of your landscaping project. Be sure to review your inputs for accuracy to ensure that the calculated results reflect your project needs.
