How to Use the Year-over-Year Calculator

The Year-over-Year Calculator is a tool designed to compute the percentage and absolute change between two values from consecutive years. Follow these steps to use the calculator effectively.

Step 1: Enter the Previous Year Value

Begin by entering the value from the previous year into the field labeled Previous Year Value. This value must be a number and should be greater than or equal to zero. Ensure this field is filled out as it is required for the calculation.

Step 2: Enter the Current Year Value

Next, input the current year’s value in the field labeled Current Year Value. Like the previous step, this should also be a positive number and is required for performing the calculations.

Step 3: Select the Calculation Type

Select the type of calculation you would like to perform. You have two options:

  • Percentage Change: This will calculate the percentage increase or decrease from the previous year to the current year.
  • Absolute Change: This shows the absolute increase or decrease in values between the years.

Selecting a calculation type is mandatory to proceed with the calculations.

Step 4: Review the Calculation Results

Once you have entered all the necessary values and selected the calculation type, the calculator will display the results in the following fields:

  • Absolute Change: Shows the difference between the current year value and the previous year value formatted with a prefix of ± and rounded to two decimal places.
  • Percentage Change: Displays the percentage change, again rounded to two decimal places, indicating the growth or shrinkage percentage.
  • Growth Factor: Provides a ratio of the current year value to the previous year value, displayed to three decimal places.
  • CAGR: This stands for Compound Annual Growth Rate, showing the rate of return over the year calculated and formatted as a percentage with two decimal places.

Using this calculator can help you quickly analyze year-over-year changes, making it easier to visualize growth trends and identify significant changes. Remember to verify the input values for accuracy to ensure valid results.
