How to Use the Urine Output Calculator

The Urine Output Calculator is a tool designed to help healthcare professionals estimate and interpret a patient’s urine output. Follow these step-by-step instructions to use the calculator effectively.

Step 1: Enter the Total Urine Volume

In the Total Urine Volume (mL) field, input the total volume of urine collected from the patient in milliliters. Ensure that the value is a number between 0 and 10,000 mL. This field is required for the calculation.

Step 2: Specify the Time Interval

Enter the time interval over which the urine was collected in the Time Interval (hours) field. The acceptable range is from 1 to 24 hours. This measurement is crucial for determining the hourly urine output.

Step 3: Note the Patient’s Weight

In the Patient’s Weight (kg) field, input the patient’s weight in kilograms. The weight must be between 0.1 kg and 500 kg. This information is essential for calculating the urine output per kilogram of body weight.

Step 4: Select Patient Category

Choose the appropriate Patient Category from the drop-down menu. Options include:

  • Adult
  • Pediatric
  • Neonatal

This selection is necessary to tailor the urine output assessment to different patient groups.

Step 5: Review the Results

After entering the required information, the calculator will display the results in various formats:

  • Hourly Urine Output: Displays the urine output per hour in mL/hour with one decimal point for precision.
  • Urine Output per Kg Body Weight: Gives the urine output per kilogram of body weight in mL/kg/hour, shown with two decimal points.
  • Output Status: Indicates whether the patient’s urine output is classified as Oliguria (low), Normal, or Polyuria (high) based on standard medical definitions.
  • 24-Hour Output Estimate: Projects the total urine output over a 24-hour period if the current rate is maintained, shown in mL/24h.

Ensure that all inputs are correct to obtain accurate results. This calculator is a supportive tool meant to augment professional judgment and decision-making.
