Step-by-Step Guide for Using the CPT Calculator
Step 1: Input Your Personal Information
Begin by entering your personal details into the relevant input fields. Ensure you provide accurate data for the most reliable results. Here are the fields you need to fill out:
- Age: Enter your age in years. It should be a number between 1 and 120.
- Weight: Input your weight in kilograms. The acceptable range is between 20 kg and 300 kg.
- Height: Provide your height in centimeters. Valid inputs are from 100 cm to 250 cm.
- Gender: Select your gender from the options provided: Male or Female.
- Activity Level: Choose your average activity level from the list. Options range from Sedentary (little or no exercise) to Extra active (very hard training or physical job).
Step 2: Calculate Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR)
The calculator will use your input data to compute your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR). This is the number of calories your body needs to maintain basic physiological functions at rest. The calculation is gender-specific:
- For males, BMR is calculated as: 10 * Weight + 6.25 * Height – 5 * Age + 5
- For females, BMR is calculated as: 10 * Weight + 6.25 * Height – 5 * Age – 161
Step 3: Determine Daily Maintenance Calories
Next, the calculator determines your Daily Maintenance Calories. This value accounts for your activity level and represents the number of calories needed to maintain your current weight:
Maintenance Calories = BMR * Activity Level
Step 4: Set Caloric Targets for Weight Management
The tool provides caloric targets to help you achieve specific weight goals:
- Weight Loss Calories Target: Calculate by subtracting 500 from your Maintenance Calories.
- Weight Gain Calories Target: Compute by adding 500 to your Maintenance Calories.
Adjust these targets based on your specific weight management goals.
Step 5: Understand Your Macronutrient Needs
Finally, the calculator offers guidance on your daily macronutrient requirements. These are based on your Maintenance Calories and weight:
- Daily Protein Needs: Approximately 2 grams for each kilogram of your body weight.
- Daily Carbohydrate Needs: Around 50% of your Daily Maintenance Calories, divided by 4 to convert to grams.
- Daily Fat Needs: About 30% of your Daily Maintenance Calories, divided by 9 to convert to grams.
Use these macronutrient needs to plan balanced meals that align with your dietary objectives.
