How to Use the Curve Grade Calculator

Welcome to the Curve Grade Calculator! This calculator is designed to help you easily adjust your scores to achieve a desired class average. Follow the step-by-step guide below to learn how to use this tool effectively.

Step 1: Enter Your Raw Score

Begin by entering your raw score in the field labeled ‘Your Raw Score’. Ensure that your score is a number between 0 and 100. This score represents the actual mark you received before any curving is applied.

Step 2: Input Class Average

Next, enter the class average in the ‘Class Average’ field. This should also be a number between 0 and 100 and represents the average score of your class before curving.

Step 3: Specify Desired Class Average

After entering the class average, input the desired class average in the field labeled ‘Desired Class Average’. Again, this should be a number between 0 and 100. This is the average score you wish your class to achieve after curving is applied.

Step 4: Choose Curving Method

Select your preferred curving method from the ‘Curving Method’ dropdown menu. You can choose either:

  • Linear Curve: This method involves a straightforward addition to all scores.
  • Square Root Curve: This method involves a proportionate scaling based on the square root function.

Step 5: Review Your Curved Score

Once all inputs are accurately filled out, the calculator will display your adjusted or ‘Curved Score’. This score is calculated based on the selected curving method and the desired class average.

Step 6: Analyze Additional Results

Apart from the curved score, additional results will be shown including:

  • Points Added by Curve: This indicates how many points were added to your raw score through curving.
  • Percentage Increase: This reveals the percentage increase from your original score to the curved score.

By following these steps, you can effectively use the Curve Grade Calculator to achieve a desired distribution of grades in your class. Make sure your inputs are correct and explore different curving methods to find the best result for your situation.
