Step-by-Step Guide to Using the GST Calculator

Step 1: Understanding the Calculator

This GST Calculator is designed to help you compute the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and the total amount including GST for a given original amount. It also breaks down the GST into Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) and State Goods and Services Tax (SGST).

Step 2: Preparing Your Input

Start by gathering the information needed to use the calculator:

  • Original Amount: This is the amount before any GST is applied. It must be a positive number starting from a minimum value of 0.01 and can be entered with up to two decimal places.
  • GST Rate: You must select a GST rate from the available options: 5%, 12%, 18%, or 28%. This rate dictates the percentage of GST to be applied to your original amount.

Step 3: Entering the Original Amount

Locate the input field labeled Original Amount and enter the amount before GST. Ensure that you enter a valid number according to the validation rules mentioned.

Step 4: Selecting the GST Rate

Next, select the appropriate GST rate from the GST Rate dropdown menu. Choose the rate that applies to your transaction or requirement.

Step 5: Calculating the Result

After inputting the original amount and selecting the GST rate, the calculator will compute the following:

  • GST Amount: Calculated as ‘Original Amount * (GST Rate/100)’. This is the amount of GST to be paid.
  • Total Amount (Including GST): Calculated as ‘Original Amount * (1 + GST Rate/100)’. This is the total amount including the original and GST.
  • CGST: Calculated as ‘Original Amount * (GST Rate/200)’. This represents half of the GST amount, attributed to the central government.
  • SGST: Calculated similarly as ‘Original Amount * (GST Rate/200)’. This represents the remaining half of the GST amount, attributed to state government.

Step 6: Reviewing the Result

The calculated results will be displayed in currency format (INR) with two decimal precision, allowing you to review the GST amount, the total inclusive of GST, and the breakdown into CGST and SGST effectively.

Step 7: Using the Results

The resulting values can be used for accounting purposes, invoice preparation, or to better understand the cost implications of the GST on your transactions. Ensure accuracy by double-checking the original amount and selected GST rate before finalizing any financial documents or decisions based on these calculations.
