Step 1: Select Your Gender
Begin by selecting your gender from the available options. Click on the dropdown menu labeled Gender, and choose either Male or Female. This selection is crucial as it influences the baseline calculation of your ideal body weight.
Step 2: Input Your Height
- In the field labeled Height (feet), enter your height in feet using only whole numbers. The minimum value is 4, and the maximum value is 8. Make sure to adhere to this range.
- Proceed to the field labeled Height (inches) and enter the remaining height in inches. Values should range from 0 to 11. Both height inputs are necessary for the calculator to accurately determine your IBW.
Step 3: Select Your Body Frame
Choose your body frame from the options provided in the Body Frame dropdown. The choices are Small Frame (-10%), Medium Frame, and Large Frame (+10%). This selection will adjust your base IBW according to your body frame type.
Step 4: View the Results
Once all inputs are provided, the calculator will display the following results:
- Base IBW: This value represents your ideal body weight without modifications based on body frame. It is calculated using the formula: ((gender == ‘male’) ? 50 : 45.5) + (2.3 * ((heightFeet * 12 + heightInches) – 60)). The result is presented in kilograms (kg) with one decimal place.
- Adjusted IBW (Based on Frame): This is your ideal body weight after accounting for your body frame. It adjusts the Base IBW by 10% for small or large frame sizes. The outcome is displayed in kilograms with one decimal place.
- Adjusted IBW in Pounds: This converts your Adjusted IBW from kilograms to pounds, using the conversion factor 2.20462. The result is rounded to one decimal place and displayed in pounds (lbs).
