Using the Fertilizer Calculator
The Fertilizer Calculator is a helpful tool for determining the amount of fertilizer needed for your lawn, along with other essential details regarding its application. Follow the step-by-step guide below to effectively use the calculator.
Step 1: Input Lawn Parameters
- Lawn Area (m²): Enter the size of your lawn in square meters. This is a required field, and you must enter a value between 1 and 10,000.
- Soil Type: Select the type of soil your lawn has from the dropdown menu. You can choose between Sandy, Loamy, or Clay. This selection is mandatory.
- Grass Type: Choose the type of grass planted on your lawn. Options include Kentucky Bluegrass, Fine Fescue, Bermuda, and Perennial Ryegrass. This is a required selection.
- Fertilizer Nitrogen Content (%): Enter the nitrogen percentage content of the fertilizer you plan to use. This is a necessary input and must fall between 1 and 100.
Step 2: Enter Application Date
- Application Date: Specify the date when you plan to apply the fertilizer. The date must be within the range of January 1, 2024, to December 31, 2025.
Step 3: Understand the Result Fields
- Total Fertilizer Needed: This field calculates the total amount of fertilizer required for your lawn, presented in kilograms. It is computed using the formula: (lawnArea * 0.025 * soilType * grassType) / (nitrogenContent / 100). The result is formatted to two decimal places.
- Application Rate: This represents the suggested application rate in kg/m², calculated as totalFertilizerNeeded / lawnArea. The value is rounded to two decimal places.
- Next Application Date: Based on your initial application date, the calculator suggests the next application date, adding a quarter of a year (3 months) to the original date.
- Estimated Annual Cost: The calculator estimates the annual cost of maintaining your lawn with the specified fertilizer at a unit price of $2.50 per kg. It uses the formula totalFertilizerNeeded * 4 * 2.5 and provides the result in USD, rounded to two decimal places.
By accurately entering the details and reviewing the calculated results, you can effectively plan and manage the fertilization of your lawn to maintain its health and appearance all year round.
