How to Use the Spousal Support Calculator

The Spousal Support Calculator is designed to help you estimate the monthly and annual spousal support payments based on various personal and financial factors. Follow these steps to efficiently utilize the calculator.

Step 1: Enter Basic Information

  • Length of Marriage: Enter the length of the marriage in years in the field labeled “Length of Marriage (Years)”. You can enter values from 0 to 100, using increments of 0.5 years.
  • Payor’s Annual Gross Income: Input the annual gross income of the individual who will be providing the support in the field labeled “Payor’s Annual Gross Income ($)”.
  • Payee’s Annual Gross Income: Enter the annual gross income of the individual who will be receiving the support in the field labeled “Payee’s Annual Gross Income ($)”.

Step 2: Provide Age Information

  • Payor’s Age: Enter the age of the payor in the field labeled “Payor’s Age”. The age must be between 18 and 100.
  • Payee’s Age: Input the age of the payee in the field labeled “Payee’s Age”. Similarly, the age must be between 18 and 100.

Step 3: Select Employment Status

In the field labeled “Payee’s Employment Status”, select the most appropriate option from the dropdown menu:

  • Fully Employed
  • Part-Time Employed
  • Seeking Employment
  • Unable to Work

This selection impacts the calculation as it adjusts the employment status factor, ranging from 1.0 to 0.4.

Step 4: Review the Results

  • Recommended Monthly Support: The calculator will display an estimated monthly support amount. This result is calculated using all inputs and follows the formula defined in the logic.
  • Annual Support Amount: This value shows the total annual support derived from the monthly estimate.
  • Recommended Duration (Years): The calculator suggests a support duration based on half the length of the marriage, not exceeding 20 years.
  • Percentage of Payor’s Income: This percentage indicates how much of the payor’s income is allocated towards the annual support.

Ensure all inputs are precisely filled to get an accurate estimation. This calculator serves as a guide and should be considered alongside legal and financial advice.
