How to Use the Loam Calculator

The Loam Calculator is a tool designed to help you determine the components needed for your soil improvement project. Follow these instructions carefully to achieve the best results.

Step 1: Enter Plot Dimensions

  • Plot Length (meters): Enter the length of your plot in meters. Ensure the value is 0.1 or greater as it is required for the calculation.
  • Plot Width (meters): Enter the width of your plot in meters. This value should also be at least 0.1 to proceed.

These dimensions will be used to calculate the total area of your plot.

Step 2: Specify Desired Soil Depth

  • Desired Depth (centimeters): Input the depth you desire for the soil in centimeters. Make sure it is between 1 and 100 as per the input constraints.

This depth will help calculate the total volume of the loam needed for your project.

Step 3: Select Your Current Soil Type

  • Current Soil Type: Choose your current soil type from the dropdown options:
    • Sandy Soil
    • Clay Soil
    • Silt Soil

This selection will influence the calculations for the additional components required to reach optimal loam composition.

Step 4: View Calculation Results

  • Total Area: After entering plot dimensions, this will show the total surface area of your plot in square meters (m²).
  • Total Volume Needed: Displays the volume of soil needed in cubic meters (m³), based on dimensions and desired depth.
  • Sand Required: Amount of sand needed to amend the current soil to desired loam conditions, in cubic meters (m³).
  • Silt Required: Amount of silt for soil improvement, displayed in cubic meters (m³).
  • Clay Required: Estimated clay volume required, given in cubic meters (m³).
  • Organic Matter Required: Quantity of organic matter, helping to enrich the soil, in cubic meters (m³).
  • Estimated Total Weight: Overall weight of the total loam volume, displayed in kilograms (kg).
