How to Use the Yahrzeit Calculator

The Yahrzeit Calculator is a tool designed to help you determine important dates associated with the anniversary of a loved one’s passing according to both the Hebrew and Gregorian calendars. Follow the step-by-step guide below to calculate these dates accurately.

Step 1: Enter the Name of the Deceased

Begin by locating the field labeled “Name of Deceased”. This field is designed for you to enter the name of the individual whose Yahrzeit you wish to calculate. It is important to note that this is a required field, so make sure to fill it out before proceeding.

Step 2: Specify the Time of Day of Passing

Next, find the field labeled “Before or After Sunset”. This is a dropdown menu where you need to select whether the death occurred before sunset or after sunset. This information is crucial as it affects the calculation of the Hebrew date of death. Ensure you make a selection, as this is a mandatory step.

Step 3: Enter the Gregorian Date of Death

Proceed by entering the official date of death in the field labeled “Date of Death (Gregorian)”. This is a calendar field, so you’ll be able to pick the date from a calendar interface. The supported dates range from January 1, 1900, to December 31, 2100. Ensure the date you choose falls within this range. This field is also required.

Step 4: Calculate Future Yahrzeits

In the field labeled “Calculate Years Ahead”, input the number of years you wish to calculate future Yahrzeit dates for. You can enter a number between 1 and 100. This value determines how many future Yahrzeits the calculator will predict. This field is necessary to proceed with the calculation.

Step 5: Review the Calculated Results

  • The field labeled “Hebrew Date of Death” will show the Hebrew calendar date that corresponds to the entered date of death.
  • Under “Next Yahrzeit Date”, you’ll find the Gregorian date for the upcoming Yahrzeit.
  • The “Future Yahrzeit Dates” section will display a list of future Yahrzeit dates based on the number of years specified.
  • Finally, the “Erev Yahrzeit Begins” field will provide the date and time when the evening before Yahrzeit starts.

By following these steps, you’ll accurately calculate the Yahrzeit dates for a loved one. If any fields are left incomplete or contain errors, the calculator may prompt you to review and make necessary corrections before displaying the results.
