How to Use the Grass Seed Calculator
The Grass Seed Calculator is designed to help you determine the amount of seed required for your lawn based on specific inputs such as lawn area, grass type, and seeding type. Follow the steps below for an accurate calculation.
Step 1: Enter Lawn Area
The first step is to specify the size of your lawn. Enter the area in square meters in the input field labeled Lawn Area. Please ensure the value is within the allowable range of 1 to 10,000 square meters and can be stepped in increments of 0.1 for precision. This is a required field.
Step 2: Select Grass Type
Next, choose the type of grass seed you intend to use from the dropdown menu labeled Grass Type. The options available are:
- Fine Fescue (35g/m²)
- Kentucky Bluegrass (30g/m²)
- Perennial Ryegrass (40g/m²)
- Bermuda Grass (25g/m²)
- Tall Fescue (45g/m²)
Selecting a grass type is mandatory for the calculation.
Step 3: Select Seeding Type
Determine the seeding type based on your lawn’s current condition and your goals. Choose from the options in the dropdown menu labeled Seeding Type:
- New Lawn (100% coverage)
- Overseeding (50% coverage)
- Patch Repair (25% coverage)
This input is also required to proceed with the calculation.
Step 4: Review the Results
Based on your inputs, the calculator will automatically compute and display the following results:
- Required Seed Amount: This is the total amount of seed needed, expressed in grams. It is calculated using the formula: lawn area × grass type × seeding type.
- Required Seed Amount (kg): This is the total amount of seed needed, converted into kilograms. The calculation follows the formula: (lawn area × grass type × seeding type) / 1000.
- Estimated Cost: This reflects the estimated cost of the seed in USD, assuming a price of $15 per kilogram. The calculation uses the formula: ((lawn area × grass type × seeding type) / 1000) × 15.
- Coverage Area: This indicates the area that the seeds will cover, calculated by multiplying the lawn area by the seeding type factor.
Make sure to verify all inputs and review the calculated results to ensure they meet your expectations. You can adjust the inputs accordingly to explore different scenarios.
