Step-by-Step Guide to Using the Elo Rating Calculator

This guide will walk you through using the Elo Rating Calculator, designed to help you calculate the change in Elo ratings for two players after a match. Follow the steps below for accurate results.

Step 1: Enter Player Ratings

  • Player A Rating: Enter the current Elo rating of Player A in the designated input field. Ensure the rating is between 0 and 3000, as this is the valid range for calculations.
  • Player B Rating: Similarly, input the current Elo rating of Player B. Like Player A’s rating, it must also be within the 0 to 3000 range.

Step 2: Select the K-Factor

  • The K-Factor is crucial for determining rating adjustments. Choose the appropriate K-Factor based on the player’s experience:
  • 10 – Established Players: Select this option if the players are well-established and have stable ratings.
  • 20 – Regular Players: This is suitable for players who compete regularly but are not yet established.
  • 40 – New Players: Opt for this if the players are new or have fewer games in history.

Step 3: Select the Match Result

  • Indicate the outcome of the match by selecting one of the following options:
  • Player A Won: Choose this if Player A won the match.
  • Draw: Select this option if the match ended in a draw.
  • Player B Won: Choose this if Player B emerged victorious.

Step 4: Review the Results

  • After inputting all necessary information, the calculator will compute several results:
  • Expected Score for Player A: This is the calculated probability of Player A winning the match, expressed as a percentage rounded to two decimals.
  • Expected Score for Player B: Similarly, this shows Player B’s winning probability, also in percentage form.
  • New Rating for Player A: The updated Elo rating for Player A, reflecting the match result, rounded to the nearest whole number.
  • New Rating for Player B: The new Elo rating for Player B, calculated the same way as Player A.
  • Rating Change for Player A: This shows the difference in Player A’s rating, indicating the increase or decrease, prefixed with “±”.
  • Rating Change for Player B: Displays the rating change for Player B in a similar manner.

By following these steps, you can effectively use the Elo Rating Calculator to estimate post-match ratings and understand the impact of match outcomes on player rankings.
