How to Use the ETF Return Calculator
This ETF Return Calculator helps you estimate the potential growth of your investments over time. With a few simple inputs, you can understand how your initial investment and ongoing contributions could grow based on your expected annual return and selected options. Follow this step-by-step guide to use the calculator effectively.
Step 1: Input Initial Investment
Start by entering the amount you want to invest initially. In the Initial Investment ($) field, input the total amount you are starting with. This amount must be at least $1.
Step 2: Set Monthly Contribution
Next, enter the amount you plan to add to your investment every month in the Monthly Contribution ($) field. You can input any amount here, including zero if you don’t intend to make regular contributions.
Step 3: Specify Expected Annual Return
In the Expected Annual Return (%) field, enter your anticipated annual return percentage. This could be the historical return rate of the ETF you’re considering. The acceptable range is from -100% to 100%, adjustable in increments of 0.1%.
Step 4: Define the Investment Period
Use the Investment Period (Years) field to indicate how long you plan to keep your investment. Enter a whole number from 1 to 50 years.
Step 5: Enter ETF Expense Ratio
Input the expected management fee for the ETF in the ETF Expense Ratio (%) field. This is a crucial factor as it impacts your net returns. You can enter a number between 0% and 10%, with adjustments allowed at 0.01% intervals.
Step 6: Reinvest Dividends Option
Decide whether you want to reinvest dividends by choosing an option in the Reinvest Dividends? dropdown menu. Select Yes to reinvest dividends, which could boost your returns, or No to receive dividends as cash.
Step 7: View Results
After filling out all required fields, the calculator will provide results that include:
- Total Amount Contributed: Sum of your initial investment and all monthly contributions over the chosen period.
