How to Use the Ethnicity Calculator

The Ethnicity Calculator is designed to help you determine the total percentage of your ancestry and identify your primary ethnic background based on input percentages for different ethnicities. Follow these steps below to make use of the calculator effectively.

Step 1: Enter the Ancestry Percentages

Start by entering the percentage values for each ancestry field. The available input fields are:

• European Ancestry (%): Provide your estimated European ancestry percentage.
• African Ancestry (%): Provide your estimated African ancestry percentage.
• Asian Ancestry (%): Provide your estimated Asian ancestry percentage.
• Native American Ancestry (%): Provide your estimated Native American ancestry percentage.
• Pacific Islander Ancestry (%): Provide your estimated Pacific Islander ancestry percentage.
• Middle Eastern Ancestry (%): Provide your estimated Middle Eastern ancestry percentage.

Each field is required and should be a number between 0 and 100. Additionally, you must ensure that the total of these percentages equals 100% for the validation to be successful. Each percentage can be incremented by steps of 0.1.

Step 2: Review the Calculated Results

Once all the percentages are entered, the calculator will compute the following:

• Total Percentage: This field will automatically display the sum of the percentages you entered. It should be 100% to pass the validation check.
• Validation Status: This field checks if the total percentage is 100%. A message will display as either “Valid” if the total is correct or “Total must equal 100%” if there is a discrepancy.
• Primary Ethnic Background: This field will determine and display which ancestry you have the highest percentage in, indicating your primary ethnic background.

Step 3: Evaluation and Re-Adjustment

If the “Validation Status” result indicates that the total percentage does not equal 100%, return to the input fields to make appropriate adjustments. You need to ensure the sum of all ancestry percentages equals 100% for the calculator to provide an accurate result.

Once all inputs are validated properly and the total percentage is correct, you will get a clear indication of your primary ethnic background based on the largest percentage entered.
