How to Use the Foci Calculator

The Foci Calculator is designed to help you determine various focus-related metrics based on your input values. Follow this step-by-step guide to effectively use the calculator:

Step 1: Enter the Distance

Distance (in mm): Begin by entering the distance from your camera to the subject into the designated field.

  • Ensure the value is in millimeters (mm).
  • The value must be at least 0.1 mm, as this is the minimum allowable input.
  • You can increase or decrease the value in increments of 0.1 mm for precise adjustments.

Step 2: Select the f-Stop Number

f-Stop Number: Choose the appropriate f-stop number for your calculation.

  • The available options include: f/1.4, f/2, f/2.8, f/4, f/5.6, f/8, f/11, f/16, and f/22.
  • The selection is mandatory for proceeding to the next step.

Step 3: Select the Sensor Format

Sensor Format: Pick the type of sensor format corresponding to your camera.

  • You may choose between Full Frame (43.3mm), APS-C (28.4mm), or Micro 4/3 (21.6mm).
  • This field is compulsory for continuing with the calculations.

Step 4: Review the Results

Once all inputs are provided, the calculator will display the following results:

  • Near Focus Point: This value shows the nearest distance to your camera that would appear in focus.
  • Far Focus Point: This value represents the farthest distance that remains in focus.
  • Depth of Field: This is the range between the near focus point and the far focus point that appears acceptably sharp.
  • Hyperfocal Distance: It denotes the closest distance at which a lens can be focused while keeping objects at infinity acceptably sharp.

All results are displayed in millimeters (mm) and rounded to two decimal places for accuracy.

Follow these steps to gain accurate focus-related insights pertinent to your camera setup. Utilizing this calculator can enhance your photography practice by offering precise measurements tailored to your equipment settings.
