How to Use the Garden Soil Calculator
The Garden Soil Calculator is designed to help you determine the amount of soil you need for your gardening project. Follow the instructions below to effectively use the calculator.
Step 1: Input Garden Length
- Locate the input field labeled Garden Length (meters).
- Enter the length of your garden in meters. Ensure the value is between 0.1 and 1000, and use increments of 0.1 if needed.
Step 2: Input Garden Width
- Find the field labeled Garden Width (meters).
- Input the width of your garden in meters. The value should be within the range of 0.1 to 1000, with a step of 0.1.
Step 3: Input Soil Depth
- Locate the input field titled Soil Depth (centimeters).
- Specify the desired soil depth in centimeters, making sure it falls between 1 and 100, with allowable increments of 1 cm.
Step 4: Select Soil Type
- Look for the dropdown menu labeled Soil Type.
- Select the appropriate option from the list: Standard Garden Soil, Potting Mix, Topsoil, or Compost. This selection influences the estimated weight of soil.
Step 5: Calculate Results
Upon filling in all the required fields, the calculator will automatically compute the following results:
- Garden Area: Calculated by multiplying the garden length by the width. The result is displayed in square meters (m²).
- Required Soil Volume: Determined by the formula length x width x (depth/100). This result is shown in cubic meters (m³).
- Required Soil Volume in Liters: The volume is also converted to liters by multiplying the cubic meter result by 1000.
- Number of Soil Bags: Based on 40-liter bags, the calculator uses the ceiling function to round up the number of bags needed to cover the garden area with the specified soil depth.
- Estimated Soil Weight: This is computed by multiplying the soil volume in liters by the specific weight factor of the chosen soil type. The result is displayed in kilograms (kg).
Utilize these results to plan your soil purchase and garden setup effectively.
