How to Use the Military Compensation Calculator

Step 1: Enter Personal Information

Begin by selecting your Pay Grade. Click on the dropdown menu labeled “Pay Grade” and select the appropriate rank corresponding to your current position within the military. Ensure the selection is accurate as this directly affects your compensation calculation.

Step 2: Input Service Information

Next, input the amount of time you have served in the military by entering a number in the “Years of Service” field. This value should be a whole number or a multiple of 0.5, and must fall within the range of 0 to 40. Enter the number directly into the input box.

Step 3: Specify Your Duty Location

Select your current duty location from the “Duty Location” dropdown menu. Choose between “Continental US” (CONUS) or “Outside Continental US” (OCONUS), based on where you are currently stationed.

Step 4: Choose Housing Status

From the “Housing Status” dropdown, choose one of the available options: “Barracks/Ship”, “Privatized Housing”, or “Civilian Housing”. Select according to your current living arrangements.

Step 5: Indicate Dependent Status

Select your dependent status from the “Dependent Status” dropdown. Choose either “Single” or “With Dependents”, giving consideration to whether you financially support dependents.

Step 6: Enter Hazard Duty Information

Finally, select any applicable hazard duty pay from the “Hazard Duty” dropdown menu. Options include “None”, “Hostile Fire/Imminent Danger”, “Demolition Duty”, or “Flight Deck Duty”. Your selection should reflect your current duty conditions.

Calculation Results

Upon filling out all input fields, the calculator will compute and display several compensation details:

• Monthly Base Pay: Calculated based on your selected pay grade and years of service.
• Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH): Determined by your pay grade, duty location, housing status, and dependent status.
• Basic Allowance for Subsistence (BAS): Based on your pay grade.
• Special/Hazard Duty Pay: Derived from your specified hazard duty selection.
• Total Monthly Compensation: Sum of the above amounts, representing your total monthly earnings.
• Total Annual Compensation: An annualized representation of your total monthly compensation, accounting for all twelve months of the year.
