This guide will walk you through using the Residual Value Calculator step-by-step to determine the annual depreciation, accumulated depreciation, residual value, and other key financial insights of an asset.

Step 1: Enter Initial Asset Cost

  • Locate the field labeled Initial Asset Cost ($).
  • Enter the initial cost of the asset you want to evaluate. Ensure the value is a non-negative number, as it is a required field.

Step 2: Define the Useful Life

  • Find the field labeled Useful Life (Years).
  • Input the number of years the asset is expected to be useful. The value must be between 1 and 50 years in whole numbers, as this is a mandatory field.

Step 3: Select Depreciation Type

  • Go to the selection labeled Depreciation Type.
  • Select either Straight Line or Declining Balance as the method of depreciation. This is also a required input.

Step 4: Input Annual Depreciation Rate

  • Navigate to the field labeled Annual Depreciation Rate (%).
  • Enter the annual depreciation rate as a percentage, which should be a number between 0 and 100. This field is required for calculation.

Step 5: Specify the Calculation Date

  • Locate the field labeled Calculation Date.
  • Select a date between January 1, 2023, and December 31, 2050. This date will be used to calculate the number of years for depreciation accrual.

  • Accumulated Depreciation: Total depreciation over the period from the calculation date to today, formatted in USD with two decimals.
  • Residual Value: The remaining value of the asset after accumulated depreciation, displayed in USD with two decimal places.
  • Depreciation Percentage: The percentage of the asset’s value that has depreciated, shown as a percentage with one decimal.
  • Remaining Useful Life: The expected number of years left for the asset’s usability, displayed in years with one decimal.
