Step-by-Step Guide to Using the Freight Cost Calculator
Overview
The Freight Cost Calculator is designed to help you estimate the total cost of transporting cargo based on various factors such as distance, cargo weight, transport type, delivery urgency, and insurance coverage. Follow the steps below to input data correctly and receive an accurate cost estimate.
Step 1: Input Distance
Locate the input field labeled Distance (km). Enter the distance in kilometers that the cargo will be transported. Ensure that the value is a number between 1 and 100,000, as this is a required field.
Step 2: Input Cargo Weight
Find the input field labeled Cargo Weight (kg). Enter the weight of the cargo in kilograms. The weight must be a number between 0.1 and 50,000, and this field is required for the calculation.
Step 3: Select Transport Type
Choose one option from the Transport Type dropdown menu. The available options are:
- Road Transport (Multiplier: 1.0)
- Air Freight (Multiplier: 1.5)
- Sea Freight (Multiplier: 0.8)
- Rail Transport (Multiplier: 1.2)
Each transport type has a specific cost multiplier. Make sure to select an option, as this is required for the cost estimate.
Step 4: Select Delivery Urgency
From the Delivery Urgency dropdown menu, select the urgency level for the delivery. The options include:
- Standard Delivery (Multiplier: 1.0)
- Express Delivery (Multiplier: 1.3)
- Same Day Delivery (Multiplier: 1.5)
This selection affects the urgency surcharge and is a mandatory field.
Step 5: Select Insurance Coverage
Decide on the level of insurance coverage by selecting one of the following from the Insurance Coverage dropdown menu:
- No Insurance (Multiplier: 0)
- Basic Insurance (1%) (Multiplier: 0.01)
- Premium Insurance (2.5%) (Multiplier: 0.025)
The insurance cost is calculated based on this selection. Insurance selection is required.
Step 6: Calculate Costs
Once all fields are completed, the calculator will compute the following:
- Base Rate: Calculated as (distance * 0.5) + (weight * 0.3).
- Transport Cost: The base rate multiplied by the transport type multiplier.
- Urgency Surcharge: The transport cost multiplied by (urgency – 1).
- Insurance Cost: The transport cost multiplied by the insurance multiplier.
- Total Cost: Sum of transport cost, urgency surcharge, and insurance cost.
The final estimate will be displayed, formatted as currency (USD) with two decimal places, allowing you to review the complete breakdown of the estimated freight cost.
