Guide to Using the DRI (Daily Reference Intake) Calculator
The DRI Calculator is a simple tool designed to help you calculate your daily nutritional requirements based on various personal factors such as age, gender, weight, height, and activity level.
Step 1: Enter Your Age
Locate the “Age” field and enter your age in years. Make sure the age is between 1 and 120 years, as entries outside this range will not be accepted.
Step 2: Select Your Gender
Use the “Gender” dropdown to select your gender. Choose either Male or Female to get the correct calculations for your daily intake requirements.
Step 3: Enter Your Weight
Find the “Weight (kg)” field and input your weight in kilograms. Valid entries are between 20 kg and 300 kg. Ensuring an accurate weight entry helps generate precise nutritional guidance.
Step 4: Enter Your Height
Enter your height in centimeters in the “Height (cm)” field. The acceptable height range lies between 100 cm and 250 cm. Proper height entry is crucial for precise calculations.
Step 5: Select Your Activity Level
Choose your usual activity level from the “Activity Level” dropdown menu. The options range from Sedentary to Extra active, influencing your overall caloric needs:
- 1.2 – Sedentary (little or no exercise)
- 1.375 – Lightly active (light exercise 1-3 days/week)
- 1.55 – Moderately active (moderate exercise 3-5 days/week)
- 1.725 – Very active (hard exercise 6-7 days/week)
- 1.9 – Extra active (very hard exercise & physical job)
Understanding Your Results
Once you have filled all the necessary fields, the calculator will provide several key outputs that will guide you in planning your diet.
Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR)
This is the number of calories your body needs to maintain basic physiological functions while at rest. It’s expressed in calories per day.
Total Daily Calories
