Guide to Using the Commission Calculator

This Commission Calculator allows you to determine the commission earned from a sale based on either a fixed percentage or a tiered commission system with a bonus rate. Follow the steps below to understand how to use it effectively.

Step 1: Enter Sale Amount

Find the input labeled “Sale Amount ($)”. Enter the total amount of the sale in this field. Only positive numbers are allowed, and you can use decimal precision up to two places (e.g., 1000.50).

Step 2: Select Commission Type

Choose the type of commission calculation you wish to apply:

• Fixed Percentage: A constant percentage is applied to the sale amount.
• Tiered Commission: A tiered system where a bonus applies if the sale amount exceeds a specified threshold.

This selection is mandatory, and you must choose one option from the dropdown menu labeled “Commission Type”.

Step 3: Enter Fixed Commission Rate

Regardless of your chosen commission type, enter the fixed commission rate (in percentage) in the field labeled “Fixed Commission Rate (%)”. Ensure this value lies between 0 and 100, and use decimal precision up to two places if needed (e.g., 7.50).

Step 4: (Optional for Tiered Commission) Enter Bonus Threshold

If you selected the “Tiered Commission” type, you’ll need to set the point at which the bonus rate begins by entering a value in the “Bonus Threshold ($)” field. Use a positive number with up to two decimal places.

Step 5: (Optional for Tiered Commission) Enter Bonus Commission Rate

Also for the “Tiered Commission” option, specify the bonus commission rate in the “Bonus Commission Rate (%)” field. This rate also ranges from 0 to 100, which can include decimal precision up to two places.

Step 6: Calculate Results

Once you have filled in all the necessary fields, the calculation tool will provide you with the results, which include:

• Base Commission: Calculated either as the fixed percentage of the sale amount or as a stepped calculation depending on if/when the sale exceeds the bonus threshold.
• Bonus Commission: For the tiered commission type; any extra commission earned on the amount exceeding the bonus threshold.
• Total Commission: Sum of the base and bonus commissions.
• Effective Commission Rate: The total commission expressed as a percentage of the total sale amount.

Results will be displayed using appropriate units (currency or percentage) and rounded to two decimal places for clarity.
