How to Use the A1C Calculator
Step 1: Enter Your Average Blood Glucose Level
Begin by locating the input field labeled Average Blood Glucose Level (mg/dL). This is where you will enter your average blood glucose level.
Ensure that the value you type in is a number between 0 and 600, as these are the minimum and maximum limits set by the calculator. Input values should also be in whole numbers, as the step size is 1.
Step 2: Select the Measurement Unit
Next, you will find a dropdown labeled Measurement Unit. Use this dropdown to select the unit of measurement for your glucose level.
- mg/dL: Select this if your glucose level is measured in milligrams per deciliter.
- mmol/L: Choose this option if your measurement is in millimoles per liter.
It is mandatory to select one of these options before proceeding, as this selection is required for accurate calculations.
Step 3: Review Your Results
After entering your average blood glucose level and selecting the measurement unit, the calculator will automatically compute the results. You will see three output fields:
- Estimated A1C: This shows the estimated A1C percentage based on your entered glucose level and chosen measurement unit.
- Average Blood Glucose: This value reflects your average blood glucose in mg/dL.
- Average Blood Glucose (mmol/L): This presents your average blood glucose level in mmol/L.
The calculated A1C percentage will be displayed with one decimal point, while the average blood glucose values will be shown to zero or one decimal accordingly, along with their respective units (mg/dL or mmol/L).
Step 4: Interpreting the Results
Your Estimated A1C will help you understand your average blood sugar levels over the past two to three months. A higher percentage generally indicates higher blood sugar levels. Always consult with your healthcare provider for a comprehensive understanding of your results and what they mean for your personal health.
