How to Use the Yardage Calculator
The Yardage Calculator is a tool designed to help you determine how much fabric is needed for your project. Follow this step-by-step guide to accurately calculate the required yardage:
Step 1: Fabric and Project Dimensions
- Enter Fabric Width: Input the width of your fabric in inches. The acceptable range is 20 to 120 inches, and you can use increments as small as 0.25 inches.
- Enter Project Width: Input the width of your project in inches. The minimum width is 1 inch, and similarly to fabric width, it accepts increments of 0.25 inches.
- Enter Project Length: Enter the length of your project in inches. This field also has a minimum of 1 inch and allows increments of 0.25 inches.
Step 2: Quantity and Special Requirements
- Enter Quantity: Specify the number of items you wish to make. It must be a whole number, with a minimum of 1 item.
- Select Pattern Matching: Choose the type of pattern matching needed for your fabric. Options include:
- No Pattern Matching
- Simple Pattern Match
- Complex Pattern Match
- Large Pattern Match
- Select Nap/One-Way Design: Indicate whether your fabric has a nap or one-way design with the following options:
- No Nap
- With Nap/One-Way Design
Step 3: Review the Calculations
- Items Per Fabric Width: The calculator will determine how many items can be cut across the width of the fabric.
- Rows Needed: This indicates how many rows of fabric are needed to accommodate the quantity of items.
- Total Length Needed: Calculated in yards, this value shows the total fabric length required, considering pattern matching and nap options.
- Recommended Purchase Length: This provides a suggested fabric length to purchase, rounded up to the nearest quarter yard for convenience.
By following these steps and entering the necessary information, the Yardage Calculator will help you estimate the perfect amount of fabric for your project, ensuring an efficient and accurate purchase.
