How to Use the Assignment Grade Calculator

This guide will walk you through the steps of using the Assignment Grade Calculator to determine your assignment grade. Follow the steps below to accurately input your values and interpret the results provided by the calculator.

Step 1: Enter Total Possible Points

Total Possible Points refers to the maximum number of points you can earn for the assignment. Enter this number into the designated field, ensuring it meets the validation requirements: it must be a number between 0 and 1000 with increments of 0.5.

Step 2: Enter Points Earned

Next, input the Points Earned, which represents the points you have received for your assignment. This must also be a number between 0 and 1000, adhering to the specified step value of 0.5.

Step 3: Enter Assignment Weight

Fill in the Assignment Weight percentage. This is how much the assignment counts towards your overall grade. Ensure this value is between 0 and 100, with a step of 0.1. Correctly entering this information is crucial for calculating weighted scores.

Step 4: Choose Grading Scale

Select the Grading Scale you wish to use. Two options are available: Standard (A: 90-100, B: 80-89, C: 70-79, D: 60-69, F: 0-59) and Plus/Minus (A+: 97-100, A: 93-96, A-: 90-92, etc.). This choice will affect the letter grade calculation.

Interpreting the Results

Once you have entered all the inputs, view the results calculated by the calculator:

  • Percentage Score: This field shows your score as a percentage of the total possible points, formatted to two decimal places.
  • Weighted Score: This represents your score as a percentage adjusted by the assignment’s weight. This score is critical for determining its impact on your overall grade.
  • Letter Grade: This field displays your letter grade based on the grading scale you selected. It gives a clear understanding of where your performance stands.
  • Points Needed for Next Grade: This field shows the number of additional points you would need to advance to the next letter grade, formatted to one decimal place with a suffix of “points”. If no more points are needed to reach a higher grade, it will show 0.
