Using the GKI (Glucose Ketone Index) Calculator
The GKI Calculator is a tool designed to help users determine their Glucose Ketone Index, a useful metric for understanding metabolic health. Follow these steps to effectively use the calculator:
Step 1: Enter Blood Glucose Level
Begin by locating the input field labeled Blood Glucose Level. Enter your blood glucose reading into this field. Ensure that the value is within the accepted range of 20 to 600. The calculator allows decimal inputs, so if your device provides a decimal reading, you can include it with a step accuracy of 0.1.
Step 2: Select Blood Glucose Unit
Next, choose the appropriate unit for your blood glucose measurement from the Blood Glucose Unit dropdown menu. The options available are mg/dL and mmol/L. Select the unit that corresponds to your measurement for accurate calculation.
Step 3: Enter Blood Ketone Level
Proceed by typing your blood ketone reading into the field labeled Blood Ketone Level (mmol/L). The acceptable range for ketone levels is from 0 to 10. Similar to the blood glucose input, you can also enter decimal values in 0.1 increments.
Step 4: Review Calculated Results
After entering the above values, the calculator will process the data to provide the following results:
- Normalized Glucose (mmol/L): This value automatically adjusts your blood glucose level to mmol/L if you entered it in mg/dL.
- GKI Value: This is the core output of the calculator, representing your Glucose Ketone Index, displayed with one decimal precision.
- Therapeutic Range: Based on your GKI Value, you will receive a classification into one of the following ranges: ‘High Therapeutic Range’, ‘Medium Therapeutic Range’, ‘Low Therapeutic Range’, or ‘Out of Therapeutic Range’.
Use this information to understand your current metabolic state and consult with a healthcare provider if necessary for further insights and recommendations.
