This guide will walk you through the steps to effectively use the American Express Points Calculator to estimate your monthly and annual Amex points and their approximate value.

Step 1: Selecting Your Card

The first field you need to fill out is to Select Your Amex Card. This is a dropdown menu where you can choose from different American Express cards available:

  • The Platinum Card
  • American Express Gold Card
  • American Express Green Card

Click the dropdown menu and select the card you own. This selection will set the points earning rates for your inputs.

Step 2: Entering Your Monthly Spending

Next, you will need to enter your monthly spending in the following categories:

  • Monthly Travel Spending ($): Enter the amount you usually spend on travel each month. This includes flights, hotels, car rentals, and other travel expenses.
  • Monthly Restaurant Spending ($): Enter the amount you spend dining out at restaurants each month.
  • Monthly Grocery Spending ($): Enter your monthly spending on groceries, considering all shopping done at grocery stores.
  • Monthly General Spending ($): Enter any other spending that does not fall under travel, dining, or groceries. This includes all other purchases you make monthly.

Each field should be filled with a positive number, considering the minimum value required is 0 and increments in steps of 0.01 dollars.

Step 3: Reviewing Your Points and Value

Once all required fields are filled out, the calculator will compute the following:

  • Monthly Travel Points: Points accumulated based on your travel spend.
  • Monthly Dining Points: Points accumulated by your restaurant spend.
  • Monthly Grocery Points: Points earned from your grocery spending.
  • Monthly General Points: Points gathered from general spending.
  • Total Monthly Points: The sum of all points earned for the month.
  • Annual Points: An estimate of total points accrued annually, multiplying your total monthly points by 12.
  • Estimated Annual Value: This calculates the potential value of your annual points in USD, estimated at $0.02 per point.
