How to Use the Apes Calculator

The Apes Calculator is a tool designed to estimate the caloric needs, banana consumption impact, and life expectancy of various ape species. Follow the steps below to use it effectively.

Step 1: Input the Ape’s Age

  • Locate the “Ape Age (Years)” field. Enter the age of the ape in years.
  • The age must be between 0 and 60 years as input validation requires it to be within this range.

Step 2: Enter the Ape’s Weight

  • Find the “Ape Weight (kg)” field. Input the weight of the ape in kilograms.
  • Ensure the weight falls between 20 and 300 kg, as required by the calculator.

Step 3: Select the Ape’s Species

  • Look for the “Ape Species” dropdown menu. Choose from one of the available options which include Chimpanzee, Gorilla, Orangutan, Bonobo, and Gibbon.
  • Select the species that corresponds to the ape you are assessing.

Step 4: Choose the Activity Level

  • Navigate to the “Activity Level” dropdown. Select the option that best describes the ape’s activity level, ranging from “Sedentary” to “Extra Active.”

Step 5: Input Daily Banana Consumption

  • Identify the “Daily Banana Consumption” field. Enter the number of bananas the ape consumes per day.
  • The number must be between 0 and 50 bananas.

Step 6: Review the Results

  • After entering all the required information, the calculator will display several results:

    • Daily Caloric Needs: This is calculated using the formula apeWeight * 70 * apeSpecies * activityLevel and is displayed in calories.
    • Calories from Bananas: This value is derived from the formula bananaCount * 105 and is shown in calories.
    • Caloric Balance: It is determined by the formula dailyCalories – bananaCalories and represents the difference in calories.
    • Estimated Life Expectancy: Based on the ape’s species, this figure is provided in years.
    • Estimated Years Remaining: Calculated as lifeExpectancy – apeAge and is presented in years, indicating the approximate time left for the ape.

By following these steps, you can effectively utilize the Apes Calculator to manage the health and wellness of the ape you’re assessing.
