Guide to Using the BAC Level Calculator

This BAC Level Calculator is designed to estimate your blood alcohol content (BAC) based on several input factors. Follow this step-by-step guide to effectively use the calculator.

Step 1: Input Your Gender

Select your gender from the options provided. Choose either Male or Female. This selection affects the calculation due to differences in how alcohol is processed by different genders.

Step 2: Enter Your Weight

Input your weight in pounds (lbs) into the designated field. Ensure your weight is accurate and within the accepted range of 80 to 500 lbs to get a valid result.

Step 3: Indicate Number of Drinks

Specify the total number of drinks you have consumed. The tool allows you to input a number between 0 and 50. This number should be an integer and reflects the total drinks consumed up to the calculation point.

Step 4: Select Alcohol Content

Choose the type of drink from the available options. The options are:

  • Beer (5%)
  • Wine (12%)
  • Liquor (40%)

This selection determines the alcohol content used in further calculations.

Step 5: Enter Hours Since First Drink

Record the hours since you started drinking. Enter a value between 0 and 48 hours. This accounts for the metabolization of alcohol over time.

Understanding Your Results

Total Alcohol Content

After entering all necessary inputs, the calculator will compute the Total Alcohol Content in grams. This value is derived using the formula: ‘drinks * alcoholContent * 0.789’ and will be displayed with precision up to two decimal places.

Blood Alcohol Content (BAC)

The BAC Level is calculated using the formula ‘((totalAlcohol / (weight * gender)) * 100) – (0.015 * hours)’. The result is presented as a percentage with three decimal places.

Hours Until Sober

The calculator also provides an estimate of Hours Until Sober using the calculation ‘max(0, bac / 0.015)’. This indicates how long it will take until your alcohol level is expected to be negligible, displayed in hours with one decimal place.

By following these steps and understanding the results, you can effectively utilize the BAC Level Calculator to estimate your blood alcohol levels and plan accordingly.
