How to Use the Car Shipping Calculator

The Car Shipping Calculator is a useful tool for estimating the cost and time required to transport a vehicle based on several key factors. Follow the steps below to accurately calculate your shipping needs.

Step 1: Select Your Vehicle Type

Begin by selecting the type of vehicle you intend to ship. This is a crucial step as different vehicle types have different standard shipping rates. The options available include:

  • Sedan (Multiplier: 1.0)
  • SUV (Multiplier: 1.2)
  • Truck (Multiplier: 1.4)
  • Van (Multiplier: 1.6)

Choose the option that matches your vehicle to ensure accurate cost calculation.

Step 2: Enter the Shipping Distance

Input the distance, in miles, that your vehicle needs to be transported. Make sure the distance is between 100 and 3000 miles, as these are the allowable limits for the calculator. This distance will be used to compute the base rate cost of shipping your vehicle.

Step 3: Choose a Shipping Method

Select the preferred method of shipping for your vehicle from the following options:

  • Open Transport (Multiplier: 1.5)
  • Enclosed Transport (Multiplier: 2.0)

Your choice will affect the total shipping cost based on the type of transport selected.

Step 4: Select the Shipping Season

Select the season during which you plan to ship your vehicle. The calculator offers two options:

  • Off-Peak (October-March) (Multiplier: 1.0)
  • Peak (April-September) (Multiplier: 1.3)

The selected season will affect the cost due to variations in demand.

Step 5: Specify the Pickup Date

Enter the date when the vehicle is expected to be picked up for transport. Ensure this date is within the valid date range of 2024, which is between January 1st and December 31st. This date is critical for shipment scheduling.

Calculation Results

After you have filled out all required fields, the calculator will provide the following results:

  • Base Rate: Computed by multiplying the distance by $0.60 per mile.
  • Vehicle Type Adjustment: Calculated based on the vehicle type multiplier adjusting the base rate.
  • Shipping Method Adjustment: Additional cost based on the selected shipping method.
  • Seasonal Adjustment: Further cost adjustment considering the shipping season.
  • Total Shipping Cost: The sum of all above factors, reflecting the total estimated shipping cost.
  • Estimated Delivery Days: The delivery time estimated by dividing the distance by 300 and rounding up to the nearest whole day.

Review these results to understand the cost and time required for your vehicle shipping. Use this information to plan your shipment accordingly.
