Guide to Using the Cord Wood Calculator
The Cord Wood Calculator is a handy tool designed to help you estimate the volume and conversion of your wood stack into cords. This guide will walk you through the steps to effectively use this calculator
Step 1: Input Log Length
Begin by entering the log length in inches. This is a required field, and you must input a value between 1 and 96 inches. Use whole inches, as the step value is 1. Ensure your measurement is accurate to get the best results.
Step 2: Input Stack Height
Next, input the stack height in feet. This field is also required with minimum and maximum values set between 0.1 and 20 feet, respectively. Use decimal values to represent parts of a foot, with a step of 0.1 for precision.
Step 3: Input Stack Width
Enter the stack width in feet. Similar to the height, this is a required field, and you can input values ranging from 0.1 to 50 feet. Again, use a decimal step of 0.1 to ensure accuracy.
Step 4: Select Wood Type
Choose the appropriate wood type from a drop-down menu. This selection is critical as it influences the adjusted cords calculation. The options available are:
- Well Seasoned Hardwood (Value: 1.0)
- Semi-Seasoned Hardwood (Value: 0.9)
- Green Hardwood (Value: 0.8)
- Well Seasoned Softwood (Value: 0.7)
- Semi-Seasoned Softwood (Value: 0.6)
- Green Softwood (Value: 0.5)
Make sure to select the correct type as this is a required field.
Step 5: Review Calculated Results
After providing all the required inputs, the calculator will automatically compute the following results:
Volume in Cubic Feet
This field shows the total volume of your wood stack in cubic feet. The formula used is (length / 12) * height * width. The volume is displayed with two decimal places followed by ‘cu ft’.
Full Cords
This result converts the cubic feet into full cords using the formula ((length / 12) * height * width) / 128. It displays the value with two decimal places and the unit ‘cords’.
Adjusted Cords (Based on Wood Type)
This calculation takes into account the wood type you’ve selected. It uses the formula (((length / 12) * height * width) / 128) * woodType to adjust the cord measurement. The result will be shown as ‘cords’ with two decimal places.
Face Cords
The face cords calculation estimates based on the face dimensions of your stack with the formula (width * height * 4) / 32. This result is also shown with two decimal places, labeled as ‘face cords’.
By carefully entering your dimensions and selecting the correct wood type, this Cord Wood Calculator will help you accurately determine the volume and cord equivalents of your wood stack.
