How to Use the Corn Yield Calculator

The Corn Yield Calculator is a useful tool for estimating the yield of corn crops based on different inputs like row length, row width, and specifics about the kernel characteristics. Follow the steps below to use the calculator for your corn yield estimation.

Step 1: Enter Row Dimensions

  • Row Length (feet): Enter the length of a row of corn in feet. The value should be between 1 and 1000. Make sure this field is filled as it is required.
  • Row Width (inches): Enter the width of a row of corn in inches. Valid entries range from 1 to 48. This field is also required for the calculation.

Step 2: Enter Ear and Kernel Details

  • Number of Ears in Row: Input the total number of ears in a single row of corn. Ensure this is a positive number, as it is mandatory for the calculator.
  • Average Kernel Rows per Ear: Supply the average number of kernel rows for each ear, between 12 and 24. This is a required input field.
  • Average Kernels per Row: Input the average number of kernels per row, which should be between 20 and 50. Filling this field is essential.

Step 3: Select Kernel Weight

Choose the appropriate kernel weight from the available options:

  • Light (0.26): Select this if the kernels are lighter in weight.
  • Medium (0.28): Choose this option for kernels of medium weight.
  • Heavy (0.30): Opt for this if the kernels are heavier. This input is required for yield estimation.

Step 4: Calculate and Review Results

After entering all the required inputs, the calculator will compute several important results:

  • Kernels per Ear: This is calculated by multiplying the average kernel rows per ear by the average kernels per row.
  • Ears per Acre: The formula used is: (43560 * 12) / (rowLength * rowWidth) * earsCount. It gives the estimated number of ears per acre.
  • Kernels per Acre: This is determined by multiplying the number of ears per acre by the kernels per ear.
  • Estimated Yield (Bushels per Acre): Calculated as (kernelsPerAcre * kernelWeight) / 90000, this provides an estimate of your corn yield in bushels per acre, rounded to one decimal place.

Review the results to make informed decisions about your corn crop’s yield potential.
