How to Use the Cumulative GPA Calculator

This guide will walk you through the steps to calculate your new cumulative GPA using the Cumulative GPA Calculator. Follow along to accurately input your data and understand your academic progress.

Step 1: Enter Your Current GPA

Begin by locating the input field labeled Current GPA. Enter your current GPA in the provided space. Ensure the GPA is between 0 and 4.0, as this is the range allowed by the calculator.

Step 2: Provide Your Total Credits Completed

Next, find the field labeled Total Credits Completed. Input the total number of credits you have completed thus far. The input must be a non-negative whole number since this represents credits accumulated over your academic career.

Step 3: Input New Course Credits

Locate the New Course Credits field and enter the number of credits associated with the new course you are taking. This number should be between 1 and 6 credits, as specified by the calculator’s settings.

Step 4: Select the Grade Received for the New Course

In the Grade Received field, you will have a dropdown menu from which you can select the grade you received for the new course. Options range from a high of ‘A (4.0)’ to a low of ‘F (0.0)’. Choose the grade that matches your academic performance in that course.

Understanding the Results

  • Total Quality Points: This result is calculated by combining the product of your current GPA and total credits with the product of the grade received and new course credits. This value represents the overall quality points accumulated.
  • New Total Credits: This is the sum of your total completed credits and the new course credits, reflecting your updated total credit count.
  • New Cumulative GPA: Calculated by dividing the total quality points by the new total credits, this figure shows your updated GPA.
  • GPA Change: Representing the difference between your new cumulative GPA and your current GPA, this shows how your GPA has changed, formatted as “(X points)” to indicate the shift.

Follow these instructions carefully, and you’ll be able to calculate your updated cumulative GPA accurately. Use these results to inform your academic strategy and track your educational progress over time.
