How to Use the Dog Food Calculator
The Dog Food Calculator is designed to help you determine your dog’s daily caloric needs and the proper amount of dry and wet food to provide. Follow these simple steps to use the calculator effectively.
Step 1: Enter Your Dog’s Weight
Begin by entering your dog’s weight in kilograms into the “Dog’s Weight (kg)” field. Make sure the weight is between 0.5 and 100 kg, as required by the calculator. This field only accepts numerical input, and you can use increments of 0.1 kg for precise measurements.
Step 2: Select Your Dog’s Life Stage
Choose the appropriate life stage for your dog from the “Dog’s Life Stage” dropdown menu. The options include:
- Puppy (< 1 year): Select if your dog is less than one year old.
- Adult (1-7 years): Select if your dog is between one and seven years old.
- Senior (> 7 years): Select if your dog is over seven years old.
Step 3: Specify Your Dog’s Activity Level
Next, select your dog’s activity level from the “Activity Level” dropdown. The options are:
- Inactive/Sedentary: Choose if your dog is mostly inactive.
- Moderately Active: Select if your dog gets a moderate amount of exercise daily.
- Very Active: Choose if your dog is very active and regularly exercises.
- Working Dog/Athlete: Select if your dog is highly active, such as working or athletic dogs.
Step 4: Determine Your Dog’s Body Condition
Assess and select your dog’s body condition from the “Body Condition” dropdown menu. The options include:
- Underweight: Choose if your dog needs to gain weight.
- Ideal Weight: Select if your dog is at an ideal weight.
- Overweight: Choose if your dog needs to lose weight.
Step 5: Calculate and View Results
After you have entered all required information, the calculator will compute the results automatically. You will see the following output:
- Daily Calories Needed: Provides the estimated daily caloric intake for your dog, shown in kcal/day.
- Daily Dry Food Amount: Displays the recommended amount of dry food in cups per day.
- Daily Wet Food Amount: Shows the suggested quantity of wet food in cans (400g) per day.
- Monthly Dry Food Need: Offers an estimate of the total amount of dry food needed for a month, given in cups.
