How to Use the Dog Growth Calculator

The Dog Growth Calculator is a useful tool designed to estimate your dog’s adult weight, daily caloric needs, protein requirements, water intake, and to determine its growth stage. Follow the instructions below to use the calculator effectively.

Step 1: Input Your Dog’s Current Age

Locate the field labeled Current Age (months). Enter your dog’s current age in months in the provided input box. Ensure that the age you enter is between 0 and 240 months. This field is mandatory.

Step 2: Enter Your Dog’s Current Weight

Find the field labeled Current Weight (kg). In the input box, type your dog’s current weight in kilograms. The weight must be between 0.1 kg and 100 kg. This field is also required.

Step 3: Select the Breed Size

Select the most appropriate breed size for your dog from the dropdown menu labeled Breed Size. The options available include:

  • Toy (adults 2-4 kg)
  • Small (adults 5-10 kg)
  • Medium (adults 11-25 kg)
  • Large (adults 26-44 kg)
  • Giant (adults 45 kg+)

This field is required for the calculations.

Step 4: Determine the Activity Level

Using the dropdown menu labeled Activity Level, select your dog’s activity level. Choose among the following:

  • Low (Less than 30 min exercise/day)
  • Moderate (30-60 min exercise/day)
  • High (More than 60 min exercise/day)

This is also a required field.

Step 5: Review the Results

After inputting all the required data, the calculator will automatically provide a series of results:

  • Estimated Adult Weight: This value is given in kilograms and estimates the weight your dog is expected to reach as an adult.
  • Daily Caloric Needs: This value is provided in kilocalories and represents the daily caloric intake necessary for maintaining your dog’s health.
  • Daily Protein Needs: The calculator provides the amount of protein in grams required daily by your dog.
  • Daily Water Needs: This value is in milliliters, indicating the amount of water your dog needs to consume daily for proper hydration.
  • Growth Stage: Based on age, this result categorizes your dog into one of the growth stages: ‘Puppy (Neonatal)’, ‘Puppy (Transitional)’, ‘Puppy (Juvenile)’, ‘Adolescent’, or ‘Adult’.
