How to Use the Drywall Calculator

This step-by-step guide will help you efficiently calculate the drywall requirements for your project using the Drywall Calculator. Ensure you have all the necessary measurements and details before you begin.

Step 1: Input Wall Measurements

  1. Enter Wall Length: Input the length of the wall in feet. This is a required field, and the minimum valid entry is 0.1 feet.
  2. Enter Wall Height: Input the height of the wall in feet. This is also a required field, with a minimum of 0.1 feet.
  3. Enter Number of Walls: Specify how many walls you are measuring for. This is a required field, and the number must be at least 1.

Step 2: Input Door and Window Details

  1. Enter Number of Doors: Enter the number of doors on the walls to account for the area deduction. This is a required field and should be zero or more.
  2. Enter Number of Windows: Enter the number of windows on the walls to account for the area deduction. This is a required field and should be zero or more.

Step 3: Choose Drywall Sheet Size and Price

  1. Select Drywall Sheet Size: Choose between the available drywall sheet sizes (4′ x 8′ which is 32 sq ft, or 4′ x 12′ which is 48 sq ft). This is a required field.
  2. Enter Price per Sheet: Specify the price per drywall sheet in dollars. The minimum price should be $0.01.

Step 4: Calculate Results

Upon entering all the necessary inputs, the calculator will compute the following:

  1. Total Wall Area: Calculated based on the wall length, height, and number of walls.
  2. Door Area Deduction: Calculated by multiplying the number of doors by 20 sq ft per door.
  3. Window Area Deduction: Calculated by multiplying the number of windows by 15 sq ft per window.
  4. Net Area to Cover: This is the total wall area minus the door and window area deductions.
  5. Drywall Sheets Needed: The calculator determines how many sheets are required, including a waste factor of about 10%, by taking the ceiling of the division of the net area by the selected sheet size.
  6. Total Cost: This is the cost of the drywall sheets needed, calculated by multiplying the number of sheets by the price per sheet.

Ensure all inputs are accurate before using the calculated results to purchase materials or plan your installation. This will help in avoiding material shortage or excess waste in your drywall project.
