Using the Enthalpy Calculator

This step-by-step guide will help you use the Enthalpy Calculator to determine various enthalpy-related values based on your input parameters. This tool is designed to calculate sensible enthalpy change, total enthalpy, specific enthalpy, and power output.

Step 1: Input Pressure

Begin by entering the pressure of the substance in kilopascals. Make sure the pressure value is between 0.01 kPa and 100,000 kPa. This is a required field.

Step 2: Input Temperature

Next, input the temperature of the substance in degrees Celsius. The valid range for temperature is from -273.15°C to 1000°C. Please ensure this field is not left blank as it is also required.

Step 3: Select the Phase of the Substance

Choose the appropriate phase of the substance from the options provided. The available options are:

  • Gas
  • Liquid

This is a required selection, so make sure to specify the phase of your substance.

Step 4: Input Specific Heat Capacity

Enter the specific heat capacity of the substance in kJ/kg·K. The value must be between 0 and 100. This input is necessary for the calculations, so it cannot be omitted.

Step 5: Input Mass Flow Rate

Finally, provide the mass flow rate of the substance in kg/s. This value should range from 0 to 1000 kg/s. It is a required field for the calculator.

Calculating Results

Once all the necessary input values are entered, the calculator will automatically compute the following results:

Sensible Enthalpy Change

The sensible enthalpy change is calculated using the formula: massFlow * specificHeat * temperature. This value is displayed in kJ/s, formatted to two decimal places.

Total Enthalpy

Total enthalpy is determined by: sensibleEnthalpy * (pressure/101.325). The result is shown in kJ/s, rounded to two decimal places for clarity.

Specific Enthalpy

The calculator provides specific enthalpy using the formula: totalEnthalpy / massFlow. This result is displayed in kJ/kg and is formatted to two decimal places.

Power Output

The power output is computed as: totalEnthalpy * 0.001, giving the result in megawatts (MW), rounded to two decimal points.

By following these steps and ensuring all required values are filled in correctly, you can efficiently use the Enthalpy Calculator to obtain accurate enthalpy-related data for your substances.
