How to Use the Equivalent Resistance Calculator

Step 1: Enter Resistance Value

Begin by locating the Resistance (Ω) input field. This field requires you to enter the resistance value of an individual resistor in ohms. Ensure that the value is accurate, as it will impact further calculations. Input a number with a minimum value of 0.01 ohms. If necessary, you can adjust the value in increments of 0.01 ohms.

Step 2: Select Connection Type

The next step is to select the type of resistor connection by choosing the appropriate option in the Connection Type dropdown menu. You have two options:

  • Series Connection: Choose this option if the resistors are connected in series.
  • Parallel Connection: Choose this option if the resistors are connected in parallel.

It is crucial to select the correct connection type as it significantly affects the equivalent resistance calculation.

Step 3: Specify Number of Resistors

Proceed to the Number of Resistors input field. Enter the total number of identical resistors in the circuit. The value must be between 2 and 100, inclusive. This field requires an integer input, so increment or decrement the value in steps of 1 as needed.

Step 4: Review the Calculated Results

Once you have provided all the required inputs, the calculator will automatically compute the results based on your entries. The following output fields will display the results:

Equivalent Resistance

This field presents the computed equivalent resistance of the circuit. The value depends on the connection type and is formatted to two decimal places with a suffix of Ω (ohms).

Total Current

The Total Current (at 12V) field shows the current flowing through the circuit when a voltage of 12V is applied. The value is formatted to three decimal places and expressed in amperes (A).

Power Dissipation

The Total Power Dissipation field calculates and displays the overall power dissipated by the resistors in the circuit. The result is given in watts (W) and is rounded to two decimal places.
