Frame Calculator

The Frame Calculator allows users to input dimensions, select materials and options, and calculates the total cost, including material, glass, matting costs, and sales tax for custom framing projects.

Step-by-step Guide to Using the Frame Calculator

The Frame Calculator is a tool designed to help you determine the cost and dimensions of a frame based on your specific requirements. Follow these steps to use the calculator effectively:

Step 1: Enter Frame Dimensions

  • Frame Width: Input the frame width in inches. This value should be between 1 and 100 inches and must be entered in increments of 0.125 inches.
  • Frame Height: Input the frame height in inches. Similarly, the height should be between 1 and 100 inches, with increments allowed at 0.125 inches.
  • Frame Depth: Specify the frame depth, which must be between 0.25 and 10 inches, also entered in steps of 0.125 inches.

Step 2: Choose Frame Material

Select the type of material you wish to use for your frame from the available options:

  • Wood – Standard
  • Wood – Premium
  • Metal – Aluminum
  • Metal – Gold Plated

The chosen material will affect the cost calculation.

Step 3: Select Glass Type

Choose the type of glass for your frame. Options include:

  • Standard Glass
  • UV Protection Glass
  • Museum Glass
  • Acrylic

Each type of glass has a different cost associated.

Step 4: Choose Matting Option

Select a matting option from the list below:

  • No Matting
  • Single Mat
  • Double Mat
  • Triple Mat

The matting choice will influence the overall frame cost.

Step 5: Review Calculations

Once all inputs are specified, the calculator will compute the following:

  • Frame Perimeter: Calculated using the formula 2 * (frameWidth + frameHeight), this gives the perimeter of the frame in inches.
  • Frame Area: Determined by frameWidth * frameHeight, this gives the area of the frame in square inches.
  • Material Cost: Computed based on the perimeter and depth of the frame, multiplied by the cost factor of the chosen material.
  • Glass Cost: Calculated by multiplying the frame area by the cost factor of the selected glass type.
  • Matting Cost: Derived by multiplying the frame area by the cost factor of the selected matting option.

Step 6: Final Cost Calculation

The calculator will provide a breakdown of the total cost as follows:

  • Subtotal: Summation of Material Cost, Glass Cost, and Matting Cost.
  • Sales Tax: Calculated at 8.875% of the subtotal.
  • Total Cost: The final total amount, which is the sum of the Subtotal and the Sales Tax.

By following these steps, you can effectively use the Frame Calculator to estimate the cost and dimensions of your customized frame.
