How to Use the Frequency Calculator

This frequency calculator is designed to help you calculate important wave properties such as frequency, period, angular frequency, and angular wavenumber. Follow the steps below to input your data and obtain the desired results.

Step 1: Input Wave Speed/Velocity

  • Locate the input field labeled Wave Speed/Velocity (m/s).
  • Enter the wave speed in meters per second (m/s). Ensure that the value is a non-negative number.
  • You can use decimal values with a precision of up to two decimal places (e.g., 340.00).
  • This field is required, so make sure to input a valid number.

Step 2: Input Wavelength

  • Find the input field labeled Wavelength (m).
  • Enter the wavelength in meters (m). The value must be a positive number.
  • You can input decimal values with a precision of up to six decimal places (e.g., 0.000001).
  • This field is mandatory, so ensure to provide a valid number.

Step 3: Select Wave Type

  • Locate the dropdown menu labeled Wave Type.
  • Select the type of wave from the available options:
    • Electromagnetic Wave
    • Sound Wave
    • Mechanical Wave
  • This field is necessary for further calculations, so choose an appropriate wave type.

Step 4: Calculate and View Results

  • Once all required fields are filled out, the calculator will automatically compute the following results:
    • Frequency: Calculated using the formula velocity / wavelength. The result is displayed in Hertz (Hz) with two decimal places.
    • Period: Determined by 1 / frequency. The result is shown in seconds (s) with a precision of six decimal places.
    • Angular Frequency: Computed using 2 * pi * frequency. The result is presented in radians per second (rad/s) with two decimal places.
    • Angular Wavenumber: Obtained from the formula 2 * pi / wavelength. The result is shown in radians per meter (rad/m) with two decimal places.
  • Review the results to ensure they meet your expectations.

By following these steps, you can efficiently utilize the Frequency Calculator to determine key properties of different wave types, aiding in your analysis and understanding of wave phenomena.
