How to Use the GFR (Glomerular Filtration Rate) Calculator
This guide will walk you through the process of using the GFR Calculator to estimate your glomerular filtration rate, a key indicator of kidney health.
Step 1: Input Your Age
Locate the input field labeled Age (years). Enter your age in years into this field. Ensure that your age falls between the minimum of 18 years and the maximum of 120 years.
Step 2: Select Your Gender
Find the dropdown menu labeled Gender and select your gender from the given options. The available choices are:
- Female
- Male
Step 3: Select Your Race
Navigate to the dropdown menu labeled Race and select the option that best describes your race. The options include:
- Non-Black
- Black
Step 4: Enter Serum Creatinine Level
Locate the input field labeled Serum Creatinine (mg/dL). Enter your serum creatinine level in milligrams per deciliter. Acceptable values range from 0.1 mg/dL to 20 mg/dL, and the value should be entered in increments of 0.1.
Step 5: Calculate Your GFR
Once all the necessary input fields are completed, the calculator will automatically compute your estimated GFR. The result will be displayed in the Estimated GFR field, formatted as a number with one decimal place and the unit mL/min/1.73m².
Step 6: Determine Your CKD Stage
The calculator will also provide your Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) stage based on your GFR result. The CKD stage will be displayed in the CKD Stage field, prefixed with “Stage” and formatted as an integer. The stages range from 1 to 5, with Stage 1 representing normal or high function and Stage 5 indicating kidney failure.
By following these steps, you can efficiently use the GFR Calculator to assess your kidney function and understand your CKD stage.
