Using the Height Prediction Calculator
The Height Prediction Calculator is a helpful tool to estimate a child’s adult height based on parental heights, current age, and current height. Follow the guide below to efficiently use the calculator and understand the results.
Step 1: Enter Parental Heights
Father’s Height: Input the father’s height in centimeters in the designated field. Make sure the value is between 130 cm and 230 cm, with increments of 0.1 cm.
Mother’s Height: Similarly, input the mother’s height in centimeters. Ensure it falls within the same range as the father’s height, with the same increments.
Step 2: Select Child’s Gender
Select the gender of the child from the dropdown menu. You can choose either ‘Male’ or ‘Female’ depending on the child’s gender.
Step 3: Input Child’s Current Age and Height
Child’s Current Age: Provide the current age of the child in years. The calculator requires an age between 2 and 18 years, using whole numbers only.
Child’s Current Height: Enter the child’s present height in centimeters. The permissible range is 50 cm to 200 cm, with a precision of 0.1 cm.
Step 4: Understanding the Results
- Mid-Parental Height: This result is calculated by averaging the heights of the parents and adjusting based on the child’s gender. For males, 13 cm is added before taking the average, whereas for females, 13 cm is subtracted.
- Expected Adult Height Range: This gives the predicted adult height with a typical variation of ±8.5 cm. It helps to understand the possible height range.
- Current Height Percentile: This percentage indicates how the child’s current height compares to their mid-parental height, offering insight into their growth progress.
- Estimated Growth Remaining: This value estimates how much more the child might grow by subtracting the current height from the mid-parental height.
By following these steps, you’ll be able to use the Height Prediction Calculator effectively and obtain insights into the child’s potential growth trajectory.
