How to Use the Implied Probability Calculator

The Implied Probability Calculator is a handy tool for bettors looking to understand the probability inferred by betting odds. The following steps will guide you through using this calculator efficiently.

Step 1: Choose Odds Format

Begin by selecting the odds format you wish to use. Click on the ‘Odds Format’ dropdown menu and pick one of the available options: Decimal (European), American (Moneyline), or Fractional (UK). This choice will determine the format for entering your betting odds in subsequent steps.

  • Decimal (European): A simple numerical format (e.g., 2.50)
  • American (Moneyline): Typically displayed with a ‘+’ or ‘-‘ (e.g., -110 or +150)
  • Fractional (UK): Displays the ratio of profit to the stake (e.g., 5/2)

Step 2: Enter Betting Odds

Depending on the odds format selected, input the relevant betting odds:

  • For Decimal Odds: Enter a number in the ‘Decimal Odds’ field, ensuring it is greater than 1.01. For example, 2.50 represents a 150% return including your stake.
  • For American Odds: Provide a valid American odds value in the ‘American Odds’ field, such as -110 or +150.
  • For Fractional Odds: Fill out both ‘Fractional Odds (Numerator)’ and ‘Fractional Odds (Denominator)’ fields. For example, entering 5 for the numerator and 2 for the denominator represents 5/2 odds.

Step 3: View Calculation Results

Once the odds are entered, the calculator will automatically calculate and display the results. The results will include:

  • Implied Probability: Shows the implied chance of winning, calculated as (1 / decimalOdds) * 100. It is displayed as a percentage to two decimal places.
  • Fair Odds (No Margin): Reveals what the odds should be without the bookmaker’s margin. This is calculated using 100 / impliedProbability and displayed as a number to three decimal places.
  • Bookmaker Margin: Displays the percentage the bookmaker adds to ensure profit. It is calculated as (impliedProbability - 100) and shown as a percentage to two decimal places.

Final Remarks

Understanding these elements allows you to make more informed betting decisions by comparing real odds to what the probabilities suggest they should be. Always ensure you have entered the correct odds type and values to obtain accurate results.
