How to Use the Linear Feet Calculator

The Linear Feet Calculator is a tool designed to help you calculate the net linear feet of a room’s walls after accounting for doors and windows. Follow the steps below to use the calculator effectively.

Step 1: Enter Room Dimensions

  • Room Length (feet): Enter the length of the room in feet. This value must be a number equal to or greater than zero.
  • Room Width (feet): Enter the width of the room in feet. Ensure this value is a positive number.
  • Wall Height (feet): Input the height of the room’s walls in feet. This number should also be equal to or greater than zero.

Step 2: Provide Openings Information

  • Number of Doors: Specify how many doors are in the room. Enter a non-negative whole number.
  • Number of Windows: Indicate how many windows are present in the room. This should also be a whole number not less than zero.

Step 3: Select Standard Sizes

  • Standard Door Size: Choose the standard door size from the dropdown menu. Options include “20 linear feet (Standard)” or “25 linear feet (Large)”.
  • Standard Window Size: Select the standard window size. Available choices are “12 linear feet (Standard)” or “16 linear feet (Large)”.

Step 4: Calculate the Results

Once all inputs are provided, the calculator will automatically compute the following:

  • Room Perimeter: Calculated using the formula 2 * (room length + room width), and expressed in linear feet.
  • Total Wall Length: Determined by multiplying the room perimeter by the wall height.
  • Door Deductions: Computed by multiplying the number of doors by the selected door size.
  • Window Deductions: Calculated by multiplying the number of windows by the chosen window size.
  • Net Linear Feet: The final net calculation of the total wall length subtracted by both door and window deductions. This provides the total linear feet of wall surface available.

Each result is presented with two decimal points for precision and marked with the suffix “linear ft”. Use this information to plan materials and resources efficiently for your room project.
