Guide to Using the Medication Dosage Calculator
This guide will walk you through each step of using the Medication Dosage Calculator to determine the appropriate dosage for a patient based on their weight and medication requirements.
Step 1: Enter Patient Weight
Locate the input field labeled Patient Weight (kg). Enter the patient’s weight in kilograms. Ensure the weight is between 0.1 and 500 kg, as this is the valid range for the calculator.
Step 2: Select Medication Type
Find the dropdown menu labeled Medication Type. Choose the appropriate medication from the options provided: Amoxicillin, Ibuprofen, or Paracetamol.
Step 3: Choose Dosage Frequency
Identify the Dosage Frequency dropdown menu. Select how often the medication should be taken from the following options:
- Every 4 hours (6 times daily)
- Every 6 hours (4 times daily)
- Every 8 hours (3 times daily)
- Every 12 hours (2 times daily)
- Once daily
Step 4: Enter Treatment Duration
Look for the field labeled Treatment Duration (days). Enter the number of days for the treatment, keeping in mind the allowed range is from 1 to 365 days.
Step 5: Review Calculated Results
After entering all necessary information, the calculator will provide the following results:
- Single Dose: The amount of medication per dose, calculated based on the patient’s weight and medication type. The dose is displayed in milligrams.
- Total Daily Dose: The total amount of medication to be administered in a day.
- Total Course Dose: The overall dosage required for the entire treatment period.
- Total Tablets Needed: The total number of tablets needed for the treatment course, rounded up to the nearest whole tablet.
- Treatment End Date: The date on which the treatment will conclude, calculated based on the starting date and the treatment duration.
