How to Use the Permutation Calculator

The Permutation Calculator is a versatile tool designed to compute the number of permutations of a set, with or without repetition. Follow the steps below to calculate permutations effortlessly.

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Enter the Total Number of Items (n):

In the first input field, labeled Total number of items (n), enter the total number of distinct items you have. Use numbers only, and ensure that the value is between 1 and 100.

  2. Enter the Number of Items to Select (r):

In the second input field, labeled Number of items to select (r), specify the number of items to arrange or permute. Make sure this number is also between 1 and 100 and is less than or equal to n.

  3. Set Repetition Preference:

In the dropdown labeled Allow Repetition, select whether you want the permutations to allow repetition of items.

    • No (Standard Permutation): Choose this option if each item can be used only once per permutation.
    • Yes (Permutation with Repetition): Choose this if items can repeat in the permutation.
  4. Calculate the Result:

After entering all the inputs, the calculator will automatically display the result under Number of Permutations. This shows the total number of permutations possible with the given inputs.

  5. Understand the Formula Used:

Beneath the results, the calculator displays the formula that was used to reach the solution. This is shown under the Formula Used section, which explains whether a standard permutation or permutation with repetition was applied.

By following these steps, you can conveniently compute the number of permutations for any given set with or without repetition. Ensure that all inputs are correct and within the validation limits to get accurate results.
