How to Use the Projector Distance Calculator

Step 1: Input Screen Width

Start by entering the width of your screen in inches into the Screen Width (inches) field. Ensure that the value you input is between 30 and 600 inches. You can use decimal increments as small as 0.1 for precision.

Step 2: Select Projector Throw Ratio

Next, choose the appropriate throw ratio for your projector from the Projector Throw Ratio dropdown menu. This will typically be specified in your projector’s manual or specifications. Options include:

  • Ultra Short Throw (0.5:1)
  • Short Throw (0.8:1)
  • Standard Throw (1.2:1)
  • Long Throw (1.5:1)
  • Extra Long Throw (2.0:1)

Step 3: Select Screen Aspect Ratio

Select the aspect ratio that matches your screen or desired projection from the Screen Aspect Ratio dropdown menu. Common options include:

  • Optimum Projection Distance: The ideal distance for projector placement, displayed in inches.
  • Maximum Projection Distance: The farthest effective distance for projector placement, plus a 10% margin, displayed in inches.
  • Optimum Distance in Meters: The optimal projection distance also converted to meters for convenience.
