Sepsis Calculator

The Sepsis Score Calculator helps users assess sepsis risk levels by analyzing clinical parameters such as body temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate, white blood cell count, lactate level, and mental status, and provides scores for qSOFA, SIRS criteria, sepsis probability, and indicators of organ dysfunction.

How to Use the Sepsis Score Calculator

The Sepsis Score Calculator is a tool designed to assess the risk of sepsis by evaluating various physiological parameters. Follow the steps below to input the required information and interpret the results.

Step 1: Enter Patient Information

Begin by entering the necessary patient information into the calculator. The following input fields are available:

  • Body Temperature (°C): Enter the patient’s temperature in Celsius. Acceptable values are between 35 and 42, with increments of 0.1.
  • Heart Rate (beats/min): Input the patient’s heart rate. The range should be between 0 and 300 beats per minute.
  • Respiratory Rate (breaths/min): Provide the patient’s respiratory rate. Acceptable values range from 0 to 100 breaths per minute.
  • White Blood Cell Count (x10⁹/L): Enter the white blood cell count. Values must be between 0 and 100.
  • Systolic Blood Pressure (mmHg): Addition of systolic blood pressure is required, within a range of 0 to 300 mmHg.
  • Mental Status: Select the patient’s mental status from the following options:

    • Alert
    • Confused
    • Voice responsive
    • Pain responsive
    • Unresponsive
  • Lactate Level (mmol/L): Input the lactate level. Values should range from 0 to 30, with increments of 0.1.

Step 2: Calculate Scores and Indicators

Once all necessary data is inputted, the calculator will automatically compute several indicators:

  • qSOFA Score: This score evaluates the risk of sepsis by considering respiratory rate, systolic blood pressure, and mental status. A qSOFA score ≥2 indicates a higher risk.
  • SIRS Criteria Met: The SIRS score is calculated based on temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate, and white blood cell count. If the score is ≥2, the criteria for Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome are met.
  • Sepsis Risk Level: The overall risk of sepsis is assessed based on the qSOFA and SIRS scores. The patient can be categorized as either ‘High Risk’, ‘Medium Risk’, or ‘Low Risk’.
  • Organ Dysfunction Indicators: This is determined by assessing systolic blood pressure and lactate level. A higher score indicates potential organ dysfunction.

Step 3: Interpret the Results

Review the calculated results to assess the potential risk of sepsis and make informed clinical decisions. A high qSOFA score or confirmed SIRS can warrant further clinical evaluation or immediate intervention.
