How to Use the Sequences Calculator

This guide will walk you through the process of using the Sequences Calculator to find the nth term, the sum to the nth term, and the first five terms of either an arithmetic or a geometric sequence.

Step 1: Select the Type of Sequence

• Locate the field labeled Type of Sequence.
• Click on the dropdown menu.
• Select either Arithmetic Sequence or Geometric Sequence depending on the type of sequence you are working with.

Step 2: Enter the First Term

• Find the input field labeled First Term (a₁).
• Enter the value of the first term (a₁) of your sequence. Ensure this value is between -1,000,000 and 1,000,000.

Step 3: Enter the Common Value

• Locate the field labeled Common Difference/Ratio.
• Input the common difference if you are working with an arithmetic sequence, or the common ratio if you are dealing with a geometric sequence. The value should be between -1,000,000 and 1,000,000.

Step 4: Enter the Position of the Term (n)

• Find the field labeled Position (n).
• Enter the nth position of the term you want to find in your sequence. The value must be an integer between 1 and 100.

Step 5: View the Calculated Results

Once all the required fields are filled out, the calculator will automatically compute and display the results in the following sections:

• nth Term: This field will show the value of the nth term in your selected sequence, formatted to two decimal places.
• Sum to nth Term: This field will display the sum of terms from the first term to the nth term, formatted to two decimal places.
• First Five Terms: This field will list the first five terms of your sequence, each value formatted to two decimal places and enclosed in brackets.
